One line review - The Remains of the Day
Ishiguro writes about self-deception so precisely it’s uncomfortable. Stevens the butler spends the whole novel convincing himself and you that his choices were correct, and by the end you understand exactly how a person can spend a lifetime being excellent at their job and completely wrong about what mattered. Quiet and devastating.
