One line review - The Art of Doing Science and Engineering
Hamming’s lectures are uneven and repetitive and completely worth reading. He’s really talking about what it means to have a career that matters, not just a job that pays. The chapter “You and Your Research” is available for free online and is the best single thing I’ve read on the subject. The rest of the book earns its place.
